| Prepare all the materials as
shown in the picture: a shoebox, white cardboard, blank or recycled paper, some crayons or oil pastels, a paintbrush, a water container, colour pencils, a palette, poster paints, masking tape, double-sided tape, scissors, a blade, a pencil, Blu-Tack (putty adhesive) and a ruler. |
Tape strips of masking tape all over the bottom and sides of the shoebox and its lid. This will give you a good surface to paint on. |
| Draw some long, thin rectangles on the box lid with the pencil. They can be straight or wavy. |
Cut the shapes out with a blade. |
| Using poster paints, paint the box lid blue with some white stripes for water and waves. |
Repeat steps 3 to 5 on the shoebox, and add some sand and seaweed to the bottom of the scene. |
| Stick the lid upright on top of the box with glue or double-sided tape. |
Draw some sea creatures for your underwater world and colour them in. |
| Cut the animals out carefully. |
Cut out some long, straight strips of cardboard. |
| Fold one of the strip's ends down and attach one to each creature with glue or Blu-Tack, like in the picture. |
Stick small sea creatures straight onto the shoebox with glue or Blu-Tack. |
| Slide the cardboar strips through the slots in the shoebox, and your underwater world is ready to go. |
You can even put on little performances by moving the creatures along the slots. |
